Description of the assignment
What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
The Technical Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of technical activities across the project, both internally and externally. They will communicate requirements, monitor technical activities and provide resolutions to technical issues and constraints that may arise.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
- Coordinate technical activities and processes between different internal stakeholders including engineers, designer, buyers, and project leaders
- Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility
- Monitor progress and performance of technical activities, taking appropriate action when needed
- Communicate technical requirements and specifications to relevant stakeholders
- Respond to technical questions and issues and provide timely recommendations and resolutions
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations
- Monitor construction activities through regular site visits to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Communicate with external partners including consultants, subcontractors, and the construction team to integrate technical solutions
- Ensure the project’s technical aspects meet safety, and environmental requirements
Profile
- 8 years of experience in a similar function
- Civil or structural engineer degree
- Ability to communicate with cross-functional and external stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Acute detail orientation with the ability to make and propose corrections
