Assistant Radiation Dosimetrist

Permanent

Description of the assignment

NUVIA  has a job opportunity for a role as a Radiation Dosimetrist at the Dounreay site in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland. The post will require the individual to have a degree in a relevant field such as Physics or Biological Sciences. The post offers a chance to apply and augment the knowledge and skills from the applicant’s degree, in an interesting and challenging role with clear career progression.

Profile

Radiation Dosimetry is about measuring the radiation dose received by workers. Nuvia operates several Approved Dosimetry Services covering record keeping, external dosimetry and internal dosimetry. Nuvia is the only commercial company to offer internal dosimetry assessments covering actinides and the only commercial company to offer criticality accident dosimetry. Nuvia participates in national expert groups and international organisations such as EURADOS.

The successful candidate will be trained in record keeping, external dosimetry and internal dosimetry. The candidate will work in a team located at Dounreay and across the UK. The candidate is expected to be confident at making decisions within their capability, with an enthusiasm to learn. Progression depends on the acquisition of technical knowledge and understanding the legal framework of dosimetry. We are looking for someone with the potential to be a future leader, who will take on the responsibility of being the head of service and someone who will become a recognised expert in dosimetry, nationally and internationally.

Nuvia provides the only independent Approved UK Dosimetry Service providing dose assessment for the uptake of actinides and criticality accident dosimetry. Nuvia also provides a record keeping service, and external dosimetry services.

With dosimetry offices and laboratories located at key sites in Oxfordshire, Dorset, Cumbria, and Scotland, we provide services to licensees and tenants on the former UKAEA sites and clients in the nuclear, industrial and security sectors. We are currently providing support to over 200 clients, with approximately 5,000 workers subject to dosimetry monitoring.

Our managed and integrated dosimetry packages are bespoke to each client’s individual needs and use the most appropriate technology, systems and proven processes to achieve optimum results.

Caithness is in the far north of Scotland. This is a beautiful area of Great Britain, with a great coastline, possessing the best surfing locations in the UK. There is plenty to do here with active sports clubs, theatre groups, heritage groups and nature groups, and, if you prefer, pubs and a cinema. We have some of the best air quality in the UK.
