Job Summary:
The Operations Manager/Major Project Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing major construction projects to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality execution. This role involves budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and compliance with contractual and safety standards. The Operations Manager leads the production team and serves as the primary liaison between clients, contractors, and internal departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution
Organize and lead the production team to deliver projects efficiently.
Review projects in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
Ensure projects are executed in compliance with contracts, safety standards, and cost objectives.
Prepare initial construction logistics plans and oversee periodic updates.
Sales Support for Planning and Tender
Collaborate with the Sales team during tender preparation by providing technical input, cost estimates, and resource planning.
Review tender documents and ensure feasibility of proposed timelines and budgets.
Assist in developing competitive proposals that align with operational capabilities.
Performance and Compliance
Meet contractual conditions of performance and monitor daily work progress.
Prepare internal and external reports on job status.
Negotiate agreements, draft contracts, and secure permits and licenses.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols and implement mitigation measures for identified risks.
Risk and Quality Management
Analyze, manage, and mitigate project risks.
Evaluate construction risks with project managers and develop mitigation strategies.
Continuously assess contractor quality and enforce corrective actions.
Analyze safety reports, identify trends, and implement preventive measures.
Resource and Cost Management
Forecast resources required for future projects.
Allocate site operatives, equipment, and materials across projects.
Oversee procurement and approve purchase orders related to production.
Control site expenses and ensure cost efficiency.
Leadership and Coordination
Supervise and assist Operations Managers in their duties.
Conduct regular reporting meetings and resolve conflicts with clients.
Address major technical issues during project execution.
Identify training needs for site operatives and coordinate with other departments as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Proven experience in operations management within the construction industry.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Proven knowledge in safety regulations, risk management, and quality control standards.
- Proficiency in project management tools and MS Office applications.
