Assistant Project Manager

Purpose of the job

Under the direction / supervision of a Senior Project Manager (SPM) or Project Manager (PM) assists in the execution of projects and gains awareness of project management process and practise.
Assists the SPM / PM in project start up and delivery of larger projects
Sole project start up and delivery of lower risk, lower complexity projects under the guidance of the business stream manager. 
Assists in project activities to meet time cost, quality requirements and manage risk.
Assists in delivering the Project Safely.

Reports to

Position in the organisation

Reports directly to the business stream manager or a SPM/ PM.
Delegated responsibility for project teams, comprising both Nuvia personnel and external contractor resources, and subcontractors where applicable.
Functionally responsible for implementing the Nuvia project delivery process to the Head of the PMO

Profile

Key Accountabilities

 

Delivery accountability

Where applicable and within the experience and awareness of the individual take responsibility for delegated aspects of project delivery including definition, design, procurement, manufacture, construction and commissioning to a practised level within the delegated scope.
Responsible for delegated project financial performance.
·        Responsible for the successful delivery of the project delegated scope in accordance with the Project Management Plan.

·        Delegated responsibility for management of project scope and any deviation from that agreed scope.

 

The Assistant Project Manager will be involved in the following activities:

Launches the Project

Set up project team, obtain resources and mobilise as part of a project.
Organises project start-up meeting.
Establishes effective communications.
Prepares the Project Management Plan (in conjunction with others for larger projects).
Prepares a project delivery strategy.
Prepares Procurement Strategy as applicable.
Prepares Safety Plan as applicable.
Establish document and key deliverables schedule.
Established resource requirements and liaises with the business to secure the correct SQEP resource to meet the project requirements.
 

Establishes schedule, Budgets and sets up project cost control

Establishes base line budget and schedule.
Sets up work breakdown structure (WBS)
Sets up accounting structure to suit the WBS.
Establish cost control methodology.
 

Procurement and Subcontract Management

·        Execute the procurement exercise and subsequent review for supplier selection.

Assess tenderer costs, performance indicators and let subcontracts.
Execute placement of purchase orders on behalf of the project and the customer.
Execute subcontractors in accordance with company subcontract management process.
 

Monitor, Control, report, Project Costs, Resources (internal and external), Schedule and scope

Maintain record of project costs and commitments, compare with plan and take corrective action where required.
Hold regular progress meetings with the customer.
Hold regular internal reporting with the business line manager.
Track progress and resource usage on schedule, mitigate any deviations present or foreseen
Produce periodic progress reports for customer and internal, including financial reports.
Identify and agree contract deviations.
 

Supervise Project Teams to achieve project Safety, Quality and Delivery Strategy requirements.

Supervises the Project Team or sub project in accordance with company requirements.
Ensure supervision of own staff and contractors on, and off, site to required standards of safety and quality including identification of training requirements.
 
 

Assess and Mitigate Project Risks

Identify and assess risks to the project
Generate and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Occupational Skills and Knowledge

Engineering, or other technical/science based, degree or HNC/HND level qualification with some experience.
 

Duties and Requirements

 

Essential

 

·       Ability to learn and practise professional standards of behaviour and compliance with legal and technical requirements.

·       Ability and aptitude to learn commercial awareness and the ability to negotiate with Clients.

·       Some experience in the management and control of projects

A full UK driver’s license
