Description of the assignment

Position: Senior Process Engineer
Location: Remote with occasional site visits to Devonport.  
Arrangement: 37.5 Hours per week, Permanent.
Work arrangement: Remote with site visits once every 6-8 weeks.

BPSS clearance will be required at basic level. Prior clearance will not be transferable.

 

The Process Engineer will provide technical expertise to support the development and delivery of new process systems for Babcock’s Submarine Delivery Programme (SDP), ensuring compliance with nuclear safety case requirements and industry regulations. Working under the guidance of the Principal Process Engineer, the role involves producing detailed process engineering deliverables, conducting calculations, and preparing documentation to support design, commissioning, and operational readiness. The position requires close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and fit-for-purpose solutions within a highly regulated environment.

 

 

Profile

Job Requirements:

  • Support the development of a new process system within nuclear industry
  • Delivery of typical process engineering deliverables with oversight from the projects principal process engineer
  • Understanding of nuclear safety case processes

Essential:

  • 3-6+ years’ experience of designing process systems.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated industry, strong preference to nuclear.
  • Ability to conduct typical process calculations such as pressure drops, mass balances, equipment sizing, relief calculations
  • Good understanding of P&IDs, associated symbols and drafting (overseeing drafting of) them to industry standards
  • Ability to write Process Descriptions and Cause & Effect Matrices to a detailed design level
  • Understanding of process control, instruments, alarms, interlocks etc
  • Understanding of interactions with mechanical and EC&I disciplines for a typical design project
  • Understanding of hazard identification and analysis associated with process systems (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP etc)
  • Understanding of nuclear safety cases including SFRs, SSCs and change requests.
  • BEng/BSc in chemical/process engineering or similar degree.
  • Experience checking design documentation desirable.
  • Ability to write concise, but comprehensive reports
  • Ability to review legacy documentation and draw conclusions/summaries
  • Hands on experience and understanding of how plant works
  • Commissioning experience and ability to write clear commissioning instructions
