Description of the assignment

Ensure the privacy, security, and confidentiality of employee data, payroll records, and HR information, adhering to all organizational policies and applicable privacy legislation
Work with supervisory staff to ensure that the payroll needs of each employee are met on time and with accuracy
Along with the Human Resources department, ensure that all payroll is in compliance with government agencies (i.e., Employment Standards) in each jurisdiction in which the company operates
Onboarding of new employees or reinstate rehired employees ensuring all data is accurate and all required documentation is correct and accurate;
Update the onboarding system by deactivating departed employees and moving active employees to the appropriate business units as required
Responsible for benefits employee enrolment for hourly and monthly hourly reporting
Process employee terminations and lay-offs in a timely manner, prepare and file Record of Employment (ROE)
Support HR with benefits enrollment, changes, and reporting for hourly employees.
Responsible for WCB account balancing, reporting and annual return
Prepare and reconcile all year end reporting; issue T4 slips in a timely manner
Respond to government agencies relating to employees when not applicable for HR to respond
Work with Human Resources for quarterly reporting and provide all required monthly/quarterly or annual reporting
Collaborate with HR on policy updates, compliance, and reporting requirements (statutory leaves, garnishments, etc.)
Provide support for external auditors / CRA reviews
Process pay in lieu of notice and severance payouts as directed by HR, ensuring all statutory deductions and taxes are calculated and remitted accurately
Process work wear reimbursements, payroll advances approved by HR, and apply payroll deductions in accordance with company policies
Provide payroll-related information (e.g., hours worked, Living Out Allowance data) to HR upon request
Ensure vacation time is approved by supervisors and accurately calculate and process vacation pay, vacation payouts, and statutory holiday pay for hourly employees in accordance with Employment Standards and company policies
Provide hourly employees with employment verification letters upon request
Assist the Salary Payroll Technician and HR by updating, correcting, and maintaining employee absence balances in the HRIS system
Apply correct overtime rules by understanding different shift schedules, compressed work week arrangements, and applicable Employment Standards provisions to ensure accurate pay for hourly employees
Understand and accurately administer top-up pay programs for maternity leave and apprenticeship leave, ensuring payments are processed correctly
Ensure that correct premium amounts are deducted for employees in accordance with benefit plans and company policies
Provide day to day functional guidance to the Payroll Team
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, including information security

Profile

Commitment to ongoing education and monitoring of payroll legislation changes for the organization
PCP designation preferred
5-7+ years full-cycle payroll experience
Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software
Experience with multi-provincial payroll (AB and SK)
WCB experience
Experience in SAP or similar payroll system experience
Experience doing payroll in a construction environment
Familiar with AB special provisions to the rules outlined in the Employments Standards Code for employees in construction related jobs
