What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:

-         A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);

-         Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);

-         An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What you will do:

The Technical Manager is responsible for managing and monitoring the technical activities of the project through communication and collaboration with different internal and external stakeholders. They will also develop and manage technical documentation, audits and inspections including on site.

Concretely, your tasks will be:

  • Manage technical activities and processes between different internal stakeholders including engineers, designer, buyers, and project leaders 
  • Review and validate project plans, specifications, and drawings to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility 
  • Monitor progress and performance of technical activities, taking appropriate action when needed 
  • Determine technical requirements and specifications in partnership with senior leadership and communicate them to relevant stakeholders, ensuring their proper implementation 
  • Respond to technical questions and issues and provide timely recommendations and resolutions 
  • Develop and manage technical documentation and reports used for plans, processes, and initiatives, including presentations, dashboards, and requirements documents 
  • Monitor construction activities through regular site visits to ensure compliance with project requirements 
  • Manage technical communication with external partners including consultants, subcontractors, and the construction team to integrate technical solutions 
  • Collaborate with project managers and cost controllers to monitor technical budget usage 
  • Conduct technical audits, inspections, and quality checks on deliverables 
  • Evaluate technical change requests and assess cost and schedule impact 
  • Ensure the project’s technical aspects meet safety, and environmental requirements 
  • Support the technical team by supervising their works and guiding them as necessary 

Profile

  • 10-15 years of experience in a similar function in large construction projects 
  • Civil or structural engineer degree 
  • Proven experience in maritime works or the nuclear industry 
  • High capacity to work autonomously with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to communicate with cross-functional and external stakeholders 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills 
  • High detail orientation with the ability to make and propose corrections 
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team
