Description of the assignment

NUVIA UK are currently looking to build our safety case capability. We are seeking experienced Senior Safety Case Consultants to join our dynamic team on a permanent basis. The role will be based out of our Harwell office in Oxfordshire, with travel to our client offices.  

 

Candidates must be able to obtain higher levels of UK security clearance (SC or DV) in order to effectively support nuclear and defence clients.

 

Purpose of the Role:

  • To support the team in generating profitable technical specialist work; undertake and deliver high quality technical work, in accordance with Company Procedures, to meet client’s needs, demands and expectations.
  • To become a recognised senior person within a particular technical field and to be the chosen client focus for the given technical area.
  • To play a supporting role in the day to day production of assessments and reports, either in part or full, for a wide range of nuclear facilities, plant and operations in conjunction with a Senior (or Principal) Technical Specialist.
  • Our projects can be delivered from both the UK and abroad and are generally led by an appointed Project Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop a sound technical understanding of the industry and particular technical disciplines.
  • Contributing to project teams of varying size providing technical advice.
  • Liaising with Clients and deputising for Principal Technical Specialists for project reporting.
  • Responsibility for checking work of other project members.
  • Preparation of technical documentation for review by Principal Technical Specialist and or the Client.
  • Responsible for communicating information directly to the Client, under supervision of the Principal Technical Specialist.
  • Identification and communication of business opportunities within existing projects or from Clients to Line Management.
  • Delivery of Technical Specialist work commensurate with SQEP, technical knowledge & business drivers.
  • Participate in the marketing, sales and tendering processes as appropriate and under guidance.
  • Developing personal specialist skills in specific technical aspects to meet business drivers and personal development.
  • Maintaining respectful communications with the Client and other Nuvia staff.
  • Undertake training leading to Membership of an appropriate professional body and maintain a commitment to Continuing Personal Development in the chosen technical area.

Profile

Occupational Skills and Knowledge:

  • Minimum first degree qualified or equivalent in a science/engineering discipline or related subject.
  • Post-Graduate qualification in an appropriate science or engineering discipline or related subject.
  • 5years + experience of safety case and safety assessment ideally all in nuclear industry.
  • Good range of competence in safety case elements such as HAZOP, HAZAN, Fault schedule production, Safety case production etc. and how they work together.
  • Ideally has direct experience of leading production of elements of safety cases. Should be able to describe the main elements and activities associated with production.
  • Knowledge of assessment of modifications (ideally up to the most significant (usually called Cat “A”))
  • Able to work in teams and some experience of leading others in delivery of tasks or elements of safety case.
  • Should be able to explain the role of specialists such as Human Factors.
  • Ideally some experience of bidding, developing tenders.
  • Able to obtain higher levels of UK security clearance (SC or DV) in order to effectively support nuclear and defence clients.
  • A clean UK driving licence and ideally own vehicle insured for business travel.
