What is the project?

 
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:

A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

 

 

What you will do:

You will coordinate and manage the issuance and tracking of H&S work permits for all site activities, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. You will work closely with project teams to anticipate permit needs and resolve issues efficiently.

 


Concretely, your tasks will be:

  • Manage the full process for issuing work permits (hot work, excavation, ground disturbance, Log Out Tag Out, lifitng ...) on BeSafe.
  • Conduct regular audits of work permits and related documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with Construction, H&S, Quality, and Planning teams to anticipate upcoming work permits needs.
  • Review project documents (drawings, diagrams, reports, contracts) to determine permits and approval requirements.
  • Identify potential issues that could delay work and propose/implement mitigation measures.

Profile

Your skills:

  • Degree or certificate in Health & Safety and related work permit field
  • Minimum 7 years professional experience
  • Strong expertise in work permit procedures and solid functional knowledge of HSE
  • Experience managing permits on complex and high‑risk projects, ideally involving tunneling, major construction, confined spaces, or subaqueous environments.
  • Proficiency with digitalized health & safety tracking systems, ensuring accurate documentation and digitalized monitoring .
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders (subcontractors, construction, and client).
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and rigorous
