Description of the assignment

Coquitlam Ridge Constructors part of BA Blacktop Group of Companies is currently seeking a team-oriented, self-motivated and dedicated individual to join our Operations Team as a Carpenter Foreperson.


 


JOB PURPOSE


Reporting to the Superintendent, successful Carpenter foreperson are trade-qualified, craftspeople with extensive skills and experience in the field of carpentry and bridge-related construction activities who are responsible for overseeing all aspects of carpentry projects. 


KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Planning and Scheduling 



  • Understand and implement the project work plan in order to meet, or improve upon, the budget and schedule

  • Translate the detailed task requirements into a prioritized plan for individual assignments and accountabilities.

  • Identify and verify that all tools and materials required by the crew are available in advance of task performance

  • Identify unforeseen needs or deficiencies in the plan/schedule and advise the Superintendent

  • Review, track, and report production results to the Superintendent daily

  • Resolve and report to the Superintendent any tasking/scheduling conflicts with other crews or contractors

  • Accountable for the production goals established for their tasks, including daily management of site-level documentation and timesheets


Employee Relations



  • Responsible for continual coordination with other foreperson and their crews on the job site

  • Monitor, recognize, address, and resolve any interpersonal issues amongst the crew

  • Report to the Superintendent any potentially controversial or questionable matters

  • Proactively take actions to reinforce team building for, and development of, all workers

  • Participate in the company’s Disciplinary Action process consistently and fairly

  • Properly apply project procedures, worksite policies, and collective agreement(s)

  • Support the company’s efforts towards employee development through participation in company-sanctioned events, initiatives, and opportunities


Quality Control



  • Actively involved in the implementation of site-level Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection Planning

  • Prior to commencing a task, become familiar with the Work Plan, supporting documentation, and Quality Documents

  • Monitor daily the execution of the work for quality of workmanship, ensuring that all specifications are adhered to

  • Inspect completed work, report any variance to the Superintendent, and upon receiving instructions for remediation initiate timely corrective action

  • Participation in the Quality Management System, including inspections and survey layout


Administration



  • Schedule day-to-day site-level operations 

  • Establish and maintain site files and documentation

  • Requisition supplies and equipment required for works

  • Request copy of written directives for any client-initiated Extra Work Orders (EWO)

Profile

QUALIFICATIONS


Essential Qualifications


Familiarity with WorkSafe BC Regulations that pertain to the corporation’s scope of service(s)


Familiarity with fundamental components of site-level construction drawings, specifications, and documents


Working understanding of the scope of trades related to bridge construction


Working knowledge of applicable Collective Agreements and employment standards


Minimum 5 years of Carpentry Experience


Minimum 3 years of Foreperson Experience


Experience in Heavy Engineering Construction and bridge-related works


Carpentry Trade Qualification (or demonstrated equivalent experience)


Level 1 occupational First Aid Certificate


Fall Protection Certificate


Rigging Certificate


Valid Class 5 Drivers License 


Demonstrated skills in the areas of carpentry, leadership, site-level communication, problem-solving, and planning


Demonstrated skills in software typical of the position in the industry (Digital timesheets, email, instant messaging)


Comfortable working in a physically demanding, outdoor, all-weather working environment, frequently at heights

  • Advanced site layout with GPS/LN100

  • Confined Space Entry

  • Ground Disturbance

  • Heavy Trailer Endorsement



ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THE ROLE


This is a BC Building Trade Union position and will require membership CMAW (Carpenters Union).


This position requires frequent travel between locations as project sites change annually.


Pay: From $41.95 per hour
