What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:

  • A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
  • Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
  • An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What you will do:

Reporting to the Offshore Construction Manager, the Offshore Works Installation Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end planning, coordination, and field supervision of offshore activities regarding the installation of an immersed intake structure on the DWI project located 1.5-km from shoreline. This role is the primary interface between the construction team, engineering, marine subcontractors, heavy lift contractors, and client during the critical offshore installation campaigns of 2027, 2028, and 2029 typically spanning April through October.

Concretely, your tasks will be:

Offshore Installation Planning & Execution

  • Plan and supervise offshore installation campaigns, including dredging, excavation, dewatering, heavy steel liner installation, and immersed large-scale precast caisson installation.
  • Coordinate marine operations (heavy lift, positioning, anchor handling) ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Oversee underwater activities (grouting, diving operations, inspections) and scour protection works.
  • Manage marine operational windows based on weather conditions, equipment availability, and metocean constraints.
  • Coordinate and review offshore survey campaigns (including bathymetric surveys).

Subcontractor & Marine Coordination

  • Act as the main interface with marine contractors, heavy lift operators, and subsea teams during offshore campaigns.
  • Review and approve method statements, lift plans, mooring plans, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable marine regulations (including Coasting Trade Act).

Engineering & Technical Interface

  • Liaise between offshore construction teams and engineering to resolve technical queries, RFIs, and field deviations.
  • Review and implement technical documentation and design requirements.

Planning, Reporting & Progress Monitoring

  • Track progress against schedule and identify risks related to weather, logistics, and equipment.
  • Prepare regular reports (daily/weekly/monthly), including productivity, progress, and downtime analysis.
  • Lead readiness reviews.

Profile

You skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Ocean/Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in offshore or marine construction, with at least 3 years in a field coordination or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience with heavy marine lift operations (crane barges, jack-up, sheerleg, semi-submersibles, or equivalent), including lift plan review, marine spread management, and anchor handling.
  • Hands-on experience with offshore placement of large precast elements (immersed caissons, tunnel segments, gravity-based structures, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of marine weather operability assessment; familiarity with wave climate data interpretation and metocean service procurement.
  • Prior involvement in large-scale EPC infrastructure projects, ideally in a regulated (Oil & Gas, nuclear, energy, or port) environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project / Primavera for schedule reading).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent for drawing review is an asset.
  • Fluent in English (required).
  • French proficiency is considered a strong asset given the bilingual nature of the project team.
  • Eng. designation (Ontario) is considered a strong asset.
